Since a few years Dutch photographer Niels van Tol is studying and practicing portrait photography. He uses medium film format cameras, like the Hasselblad 501CM and the Mamiya RB67 ProSD. Occasionally he works with a Canon 5D (digital) camera.
“Working with a Hasselblad or Mamiya camera these days is like a journey back in time. These cameras are fully mechanical, they require no batteries, which means that they don’t have a lightmeter, nor focal points, menu, aperture priority and so on. They give you fully vintage, old-school photography, which I find fascinating and inspiring.
All in all it’s not about taking a photo, it’s about making a photo.
